The climactic opus of the sampling/synthetic music culture brought to prominence more than a decade earlier by The Art of Noise, primed for the age of recycling, and a simultaneous confirmation of vocal hip-hop’s status as history, Entroducing….. was micro-composed by DJ Shadow using nothing but hundreds of fragmented samples taken from a vast array of old and often damaged vinyl records. The result is a continuous experimental sound collage of dance beats and sound-bites, devoid of all rap, always morphing and often collapsing into maniacal episodes of glitch. One of the last electronic classics, and an immortal requiem for vinyl in the ever-encroaching digital age.
THIS BOOK IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF ROBERT YOUNG (1964-2014)
