The extreme metal cult even spread to Brazil, where Sepultura – inspired by Venom, Hellhammer and others – created their own form of black metal mayhem, as primitive as early Sodom but texturally informed by those who came soon after. Satanism is the prevalent imagistic theme, the music wild and loose within its own worldview, marked by feral vocals and outbreaks of lacerating guitar noise. Morbid Visions was one of 1986’s many dark and provocative metal recordings, and Sepultura’s last before changing guitarists; their new form would fully flower into evil beauty two years later, with Beneath The Remains. Other extreme metal bands operating in Brazil during 1986 included Vulcano, Mutilator, Chakal, Holocausto, and Sarcófago, with the latter four all featuring on the notorious Warfare Noise compilation.
