Former Deep Purple vocalist Rod Evans teamed up with remnants of Iron Butterfly to create Captain Beyond, whose first album Captain Beyond sets out a new and thrilling form of metal-edged mythic rock that incorporates progressive elements and psychedelic shadings. Each side of the album works as a suite of music, veering between styles but held together by an overarching sensation of cosmic ecstasy.
