Hollywood pop maverick Fowley teamed up with Steppenwolf guitarist Mars Bonfire to create Outrageous, a deranged classic of 60s garage-psych and by far his most significant recording. From its gatefold-sleeve artwork – showing Fowley in leather and chains with a half-naked girl – inwards, Outrageous stands as a screaming manifesto of drug-fuelled revolution with Fowley as self-proclaimed “Lord of Garbage”, a Manson-like persona whose self-proclaimed mission is to foment violence against short-hairs, rape and butcher straight chicks, and even start race war by miscegenation. Bonfire’s manic guitar distortions lead the studio band into acid meltdown as Fowley’s apocalyptic proclamations spiral to the point of insanity, and the album finally fades with the echoed refrain “we’re rough, we’re tough, we’ve had enough”.
