Fronted by Sepultura’s original vocalist and inspired by Slayer, extreme Euro metal and Scandinavian hardcore, Sarcófago took Brazilian metal to new depths of gleeful depravity with their “blasphemous” first album. I.N.R.I. offered a teenage celebration of the death of Christ and the rise of priapic demons from Hell by creating the most infernal noise then imaginable, interspersed with elements of death and doom and delivered with a black metal hammer to the listener’s skull. This is the expanded 2001 re-release, which wisely includes two crucial 1986 combined tracks (A1) first released on the Warfare Noise album.
