Like others (including Afrika Bambaataa and Juan Atkins), Canadian band Skinny Puppy utilized the rudiments of an obsolete musical form (synth-pop) in order to forge something forward-looking. Building on the legacy of bands like Cabaret Voltaire, Skinny Puppy’s debut 6-track release Remission presents a fusion of electronics, taped effects and samples, metallic percussion and relentless rhythms. Remission points electro-industrial music to its next phase, poised to seep like a virus towards the mainstream.
