Eno’s transglobal music experiments continued in collaboration with avant-garde composer Jon Hassell, formerly a student of Pandit Pran Nath. Sub-titled Fourth World Volume 1, the pair’s Possible Musics is a haunting synthesis of electronics, ethnic percussion and the muted phantom howls of Hassell’s distorted trumpet signatures. Too subtly disturbing to be classed as ambient, this music continues where “Mountain Of Needles”, the voiceless final track of My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts, left off – an atavistic tribal trip into the collective unconscious.
