A Ministry-inspired postscript to the electro-industrial age, Broken was partly recorded at the Cielo Drive site of the so-called Manson murders, indicating the newly transgressive intent of Nine Inch Nails, a former synth-pop act. Broken is the sound of electro-metal preparing to enter the mainstream, but still violent enough to claim underground status. More would follow, but none of it an improvement.
